You will walk away from this session with lessons you can immediately use in your classroom. You will learn how to have students use coding as a tool to HELP YOU teach literacy in your content area(s). We will adapt technology to meet the needs in your content areas, while students build their vocabulary! Find out how students are actively engaged in the learning while they are programing robots to complete tasks. Students will enhance their content literacy while developing their computational thinking skills. Students can interact with the language of coding and learn new literacy in every discipline. Students use a mix of AVID strategies and coding to help comprehend texts through coding a virtual One-Pager in math or social studies. Likewise, students can stretch their literacy in Science by creating quizzes about vocabulary on the human body. In both scenarios, the students create stories and their own study materials through hands-on coding, using new vocabulary, that help support them across disciplines. Students can code and comprehend anything from essential questions and standards to complete projects using Scratch, Microbit and robots/drones.
