Research has shown that when students engage in more intellectually challenging work, they also gain the skills that they need to succeed on more traditional forms of assessment. However, teachers often struggle with the process of “letting go” and empowering students to take ownership of the learning process. Project-Based Learning (PBL) offers one avenue for scaffolding teacher instructional design but it needs to be considered more than just a unit or activity. In this session, we will explore the potential of using PBL as a mindset shift towards student-centered learning and address the driving question: how might we encourage our students to become question askers, problem seekers, and knowledge.
