Using Phenomena To Engage Students in Science
What is Phenomena and what makes it engaging? By centering science education on phenomena that students are motivated to explain, the focus of learning shifts from learning about a topic to figuring out why or how something happens and connects that learning to the natural world. Explore example phenomena-based lessons as we share resources to get you started on building your own phenomena based science lessons.

Keynote: Creating Purpose for Numeracy and Literacy through STEM
n 2019 teachers and students are hyper focused on the “what” of teaching and learning. What course are you taking? What scores are you achieving? What college will you try to attend? We often impose responsibility upon students at the expense of curiosity and wonder. What is forgotten is the all-important Why? Teachers and students crave purpose for learning content, for numeracy and for literacy. In this session participants will crystallize purpose for their STEM lessons in order to teach and learn with purpose and effectiveness.
