Michelle Zeccola
Richland Two School District Spanish Teacher
Blythewood High School
I am originally from New York, but came to South Carolina 8 years ago. I have been teaching Spanish for 14 years. I am looking forward to begin my first year at Blythewood High School. I love South Carolina almost as much as I love teaching Spanish. At a very young age, Spanish ignited an eternal flame in my soul. I just knew I wanted to be a Spanish teacher when I sat in my first Spanish class. I knew the best way to learn Spanish was to immerse myself fully into it.
At age 16, I applied to be a Rotary Exchange Student, knowing that this would be the best opportunity to learn Spanish. Unfortunately, I was selected to study in Denmark, which did nothing to increase my Spanish knowledge, but did everything to change me into the independent thinker I am today. As a college student, I attended La Universidad del Salvador in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
After studying in a Spanish-speaking country I was convinced the only true way to learn Spanish is to live it! My first year of teaching, I chapeoroned a class trip to Spain for 10 days. This past Spring Break I brought nine students to Costa Rica. It was an amazing trip and my students loved their time there.
